Cushmic Sounds is pleased to offer on consignment this vintage 1971 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop with some rather cool Rock N' Roll history.

Serial #968905

Australian Rock Royalty:

This 1971 Gibson Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop was one of two vintage Les Paul Goldtops loaned to Mark McEntee of the Divinyls and used on their "Don't Wanna Do This" national Australian tour in December 2007. It had been signed by Mark after the tour but his signature has since been removed.

In October of 2021, this Goldtop was put up for auction with McKenzies Auctioneers along with select guitars from Mark's collection.

Nut width: 43.10mm (1.697")

Fingerboard width at 12th fret: 51.79mm (2.039")

Neck depth at 1st fret: 21.60mm (0.850")

Neck depth at 12th fret: 25.08mm (0.987")

Original Parts:

• Two original PATENT NO sticker mini humbuckers with mounting plates.

Pickup outputs:

Neck: 7.60k

Bridge: 7.25k

• Three original CTS 500k pots.

CTS pot code breakdown:

137 = CTS Manufacturer Code

71 = Year manufactured

14 = Week of year

• One original CBA pot with code CBA-811-1158. Unfortunately this code doesn't indicate a specific date, but Gibson used these pots between 1969-73, and judging by the solder, looks to be original.

• Original Sprague caps

• Original Switchcraft 3-way toggle with switch tip and Rhythm/Treble plate.

• Original Stopbar Tailpiece with posts and studs.

• Original pickguard with bracket.

• Original brown backplates.

• Original 'Deluxe' truss rod cover (1 screw missing).

• Original control knobs with pointers "thumb bleeders"

Replacement Parts:

• Pro re-fret with replacement Bone nut.

• Replacement Switchcraft output jack and chrome plate.

• Replacement Strap Buttons

• Replacement vintage German-made Schaller Nashville-style tune-o-matic bridge and studs which appear to be from the 1980s.

NOTE: There is some "sag" in the bridge, but this has been assessed with no issues in playability.

• Replacement Modern Grover 18:1 Rotomatic chrome tuners.

Missing parts:

• This Deluxe was originally fitted with the commonly referred to "Goof Rings" or "Goof Hiders". Noted on various forums, these were factory installed to hide tooling imperfections or simply an aesthetic to mimic the look of full size humbuckers.

Australian Made Stamford Case:

At the time, Gibson guitars were shipped to Australia by distributor Harry Landis & Sons, and paired with its Australian-made Stamford case, which is the one this Goldtop is currently in. Other distributors often ordered guitars from Kalamazoo packaged strictly in cardboard factory shipping boxes to reduce volume and weight in order to save on freight costs.

These Stamford cases are quite the collector's item.

Serviced and setup here at Cushmic Sounds with D'Addario 10-46 strings, frets cleaned and polished, fretboard cleaned and lightly oiled, intonation and action set, truss rod tested and works as it should, electronics cleaned, tested and working perfectly, all hardware cleaned and secured.

Replacement frets are in EXCELLENT condition, playability is superb!

Overall GREAT vintage condition with no structural cracks or breaks. Just classic, natural, vintage patina and genuine, honest play wear.
